Practicalities
Work mode: Helsinki
Level: Senior individual contributor
Employment type: Full time and permanent
About the role
Power is the binding constraint on how fast we grow, and our view of it currently sits in fragments across several teams. As Senior Energy Market Analyst you own the analytical view of the Nordic power market: what power will cost in five years, where generation is actually being added, which connection queues are worth entering, and what political change is about to make today's answer wrong. You are the first dedicated energy hire in the company, so you build the analytical backbone from scratch and become the person Construction, Site Acquisition, Finance and Global Policy come to before committing to a market. There is no framework to inherit and no analyst layer beneath you, and decisions here get made in days rather than quarters.
Your responsibilities
Own the house view on forward power cost and connection availability in the Nordics, including the confidence we attach to it, and defend it when the answer is unattractive.
Build and maintain a quantitative view of the Finnish and wider Nordic power markets: supply and demand balance, generation build out, congestion and price area behaviour, forward curves, and the direction of travel on each.
Advise on grid connection strategy country by country, tracking queue positions and knowing which reservations are real and which are speculative.
Model the impact of policy and regulatory change on our cost of power and our ability to connect, and turn it into a recommendation rather than a summary.
Provide the energy side of the go or no go view on candidate countries and specific sites, alongside Site Acquisition and Construction.
Choose the data sources, models and tooling the energy analytics function is built on.
Pressure test other teams' assumptions, support Global Policy with modelled evidence for engagement with governments and regulators, and support Finance on long range power cost assumptions.
Your key competencies
We are looking for someone who has worked inside the Nordic power system rather than observed it.
Five years or more in energy market analysis, origination, or grid and system planning. Experience from a transmission system operator, is highly preferred.
Deep Nordic power market experience built inside the market itself, from a TSO, a major utility, or a power trading and origination desk. Direct experience of the Finnish system specifically.
Genuine command of market mechanics: spot and forward markets, price areas and congestion, baseload versus profiled products, hedging structures, and how a long term contract is actually priced.
Working knowledge of grid connection processes in at least one Nordic country, including how the queue or reservation process behaves in practice rather than on paper.
Strong quantitative and modelling skills. You build your own models and you can defend the assumptions in them.
The ability to convert analysis into a recommendation a non specialist executive can act on immediately.
Fluent English.
Nice to have
Finnish language.
Coverage of a second European market beyond the Nordics. France is of particular interest, as is Spain.
Exposure to power questions in a data centre, industrial or other large load context.
An established network across Nordic TSOs, utilities, regulators and developers.
Experience supporting policy or regulatory engagement with modelled evidence.
