About the role

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll build the core services that power Verda's cloud platform.

From customer-facing APIs to resource provisioning, identity management, billing, and analytics, you'll design and develop the systems that enable customers to consume AI infrastructure at scale. You'll work closely with Platform Engineering, SRE, and Infrastructure teams to build secure, scalable, and reliable backend services that sit at the heart of our platform.

Beyond writing code, you'll help shape architecture, influence engineering practices, and drive technical decisions that improve the platform as it grows.

Your responsibilities

You will design, build, and evolve backend services across Verda's cloud platform, working on areas such as resource provisioning, authentication, billing, analytics, and platform APIs.

You will collaborate closely with Platform Engineering, SRE, and Infrastructure teams to design scalable services and APIs that automate infrastructure management and improve platform reliability.

You will contribute to system architecture, technical design, and engineering best practices, helping build software that is secure, maintainable, and resilient.

You will improve deployment workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and development practices that enable fast and reliable software delivery.

You will mentor other engineers through code reviews, technical discussions, and knowledge sharing while contributing to a collaborative engineering culture.

Your key competencies

• 5+ years of experience building production backend systems

• Strong proficiency with TypeScript and the Node.js ecosystem (NestJS, Express, or similar)

• Experience designing scalable backend architectures, microservices, and distributed systems

• Strong knowledge of REST APIs, SQL databases, and scalable data modeling

• Experience building secure, production-grade services with comprehensive testing strategies

• Experience making architectural decisions and balancing scalability, performance, and maintainability

• Strong software engineering fundamentals and ability to independently own complex technical problems

Nice to have

• Experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation

• Experience with Python and/or Go

• Experience building platform, infrastructure, or developer-facing products

• Familiarity with authentication, IAM, or cloud provisioning systems

Practicalities

• Location: Helsinki, Finland or London, United Kingdom

• Working mode: Hybrid (3 days per week in the office)

• Employment type: Full-time and permanent
